107 - Meat Trapping - Coyote Trapping School Podcast
Переглядів 9763 роки тому
In this episode I talk about eating furbearer meat. If you’re a trapper or hunter, odds are that you’ve at least considered eating various wild game. I think eating some of the meat we catch is a great opportunity to introduce others to wild game as well as give us some additional arguments to those who don’t approve of trapping. The fact is, when handled properly it is quality tablefare, and a...

In this episode I touch quickly on what could be a major impact on the fur market, related to COVID. Then I go through a general overview of coyote biology and behavior. In this week’s episode I dig into some trapper survey data and find some historical data of trapper harvest from several different states, some dating back to the 1930s. It is very interesting data and highlights how important it is for trappers to accurately respond to those surveys. Our game agencies rely on us for good data, and if we don’t provide it to them then they don’t have good data t...

There are a lot more benefits to trapping than a fur check, which is a good thing in times like these when fur checks are slim to non existant! There are plenty of things that trapping teaches you, and the network and connections you make as a trapper can unlock opportunities that you may have never otherwise been able to take advantage of. As we approach trapping season, I hope there are plent...

Hello, my pet turtle recently passed and I am wanting to have his shell processed/ preserved but don’t have the stomach to do it myself. I’ve contacted multiple taxidermy services and they won’t touch turtles. Would I possibly be able to hire/commission you to do this?

Best setting video ever!. This guy was clear and walked us through everything. I seen multiple other videos and nobody explained it like this. Every person would leave something out on the other videos even after watching multiple other ones i still didnt get all the information this guy had. Not just what he told us but how he delivered his instructions. Thank you for the most helpful video I've found on these traps.

As long as I have had my stop loss traps I have never used the pin to hold the spring fired leg holder, because I never caught any animals that were strong enough to pull it out of the holder, and I never lost any animals, be it muskrat, squirrels, mink or anything else. Good video btw.

The Full Metal Jacket is much like Corroseal Rust Converter for vehicle frames. Let traps get a coat of surface rust and dip. Comes out Black and prevents further rust. Works really well.

A piece of about 3/8" braided rope with a loop big enough to freely put your booted foot into makes a great trap setter. I especially like the way a slight reduction in pressure on the rope eases the spring into the safety catch. Just as I close the jaws but before I set the trigger I put the safety catch on. Setting the trigger always slightly releases the two spring safeties.

Armadillo is good eating I've been eating them for years. The fat on them makes them greasy cooking if you don't get it off but it doesn't affect the taste. I baked mine and it's just like eating pork.

Some comments from NZ I note your shock spring was way too heavy! Too heavy to work correctly. Suggest going to a much lighter spring & you might be happier about using them! Ones we use are very cheap & fast to replace & long lasting, I would not leghold trap today without at least 2 swivels on my 11 inch chains & at least one chain spring. Our trapping Ass. here recently had a spring manufacturer run out a batch of 10,000 springs to get costs down super low & with an easy to fit NZ trapping research designed spring. New Zealand does not have the manufacturing engineering base of the USA. If I'm going about a trap line..... with 2 to 3 hundred traps on it one does occasionally lose a chain spring its only a minutes to repair or replace...... just a suggestion "lighter spring!
